Cleaning an airsoft gun often confuses many airgun users. Many ask if precision airsoft guns require periodic maintenance. Yes, an airsoft gun does require a certain amount of upkeep. In fact an airsoft gun should be maintained the same way that you would maintain a firearm.

Now, that last statement is what confuses many airsoft gun users. There are differences and similarities between an airsoft gun and a regular firearm. A precision airsoft gun is not related mechanically to firearms the airsoft gun still requires general maintenance that closely resembles pneumatic tools or automotive shock absorbers.

An airsoft gun cleaning kit is a must have for airgun owners. An airsoft gun cleaning kit can be purchased for fewer than fifteen dollars. The maintenance kit is perfect for use with an airsoft gun. The kit comes with a barrel brush, cleaning rods, a jag and a barrel mop.

When cleaning airsoft guns never use petroleum lubricants or a strong solvent. The only thing that should be used in the regular upkeep of the airgun is a damp, soft cloth to clean the exterior of the gun.

You should also use one hundred percent silicone oil spray to clean the barrel of the airsoft gun. The maintenance of the internal gearbox mechanisms should be performed by a professional. It is important not to soak the airsoft gun in any sort of water or lubricants.

Airsoft guns require a minimal amount of cleaning. The one part of the gun that should be cleaned regularly is the barrel. To clean the barrel take a cleaning rod and thread a patch through the slit of the airsoft gun’s barrel.

The gearbox of the gun should be cleaned and relubricated every six month period. This should be done by a professional. By following these airsoft gun cleaning tips you will ensure that your gun lasts for a longtime.

1. Turn off your airsoft gun.
2. Remove the battery or gas tank.

Airsoft guns are non-lethal replicas of real firearms and used generally within a game format at designated places. Despite their quite safe-sounding name, airsoft guns although not lethal can be very dangerous. However, with the right air soft gun safety equipment and an adherence to some basic safety guidelines, you can shoot without fear of unexpectedly injuring yourself or someone else. Read on for some basic guidelines for the use of airsoft guns.

1) Always treat airsoft guns as if they are loaded and handle them with care.
2) Do not shoot your gun at anything other than an official safety target. Only put your finger on the trigger if you are ready to fire your gun. Accidental firing particularly at close range can result in damaged eyes or lost teeth.
3) Do not brandish an airsoft gun in a public place. They should be used in designated areas for airsoft gun use.
4) A note to parents of children using airsoft guns. If your child brings an airsoft gun to school or uses it in any other public place they run the risk of being suspended or even arrested. In the worst case scenario they risk being shot by a police officer as airsoft guns are often excellent copies of real firearms and can quite easily be mistaken for the real thing.
5) To minimize the potential for unexpected injury, always be aware of what is behind, beyond and either side of your target before you fire your gun at your target.
6) Airsoft guns shoot plastic pellets at a slower rate than that of a real firearm. Therefore airsoft guns can be used to shoot at human targets without injury but under certain conditions. The most important condition is eyewear. Never shoot at someone who is not wearing proper protective eyewear. Recommended eyewear are eye goggles rated at least ANSI Z87.1 or goggles used for paintball. Always wear eye goggles yourself when you are using airsoft guns.
7) Other recommended safety accessories are a thick jumper or eve a bullet proof vest if possible, plastic hip guards and forearm guards, knee protection and shin guards, steel toe combat boots and leather gloves. Cover all skin areas as much as possible.
When transporting your gun to and from a game carry it in a gun case. The gun case is safe, protects your gun and can be used to store Airsoft pistols, accessories and spare magazines. Remember in some places using a case is the only legal way to carry your gun. Respect the laws of the area in which you are carrying your gun.
9) Airsoft guns can not be bought by children under 18 and can only be used by children under 18 if supervised correctly.
10) Be aware of all local and federal laws governing the buying, carrying and use of airsoft guns. Contact your local police department for more information.

Airsoft guns can provide a great deal of fun. Misuse of these types of replica gun can bring unnecessary injury or harm to users and innocent bystanders alike. Having rules should not put you off playing airsoft gun games. Having guidelines helps everybody to get the best out of the use of the guns and keeps everybody safe. Remember to purchase the right gun for your particular need and level of ability. A whole range of cheap and more expensive models can be purchased from quality retailers selling Airsoft guns and self defense products. Choose your gun wisely, follow the safety guidelines and have lots of fun.

However, one of the most common varieties is the airsoft spring pistol. Although these may not always be the best choice if you’re planning on engaging in competition, they do have some advantages that have made them popular with some enthusiasts.

If you don’t remember those physics classes from high school or college, let’s go over the idea briefly. When the energy is released, it becomes kinetic. You might think of a large boulder at the top of a hill. While the boulder sits there, it has potential energy. When it starts rolling down the hill, it has kinetic energy.

For one, these are rarely going to be as powerful as the models that use gas or electricity. There are a few on the market at the high-end which can be quite powerful but don’t purchase the ordinary ones on the shelves at the local store expecting to be victorious during your next airsoft competition. It’s unlikely to happen.

Another disadvantage is because of the firing mechanism, you cannot use an automatic airsoft pistol, http://www.softairpro.com/airsoft-pistols/automatic-airsoft-pistol.htm to fire more than one consecutive shot. That means you’re not going to find these models in semi-automatic or automatic varieties. You can imagine that if you’re playing against a team armed with that type of firepower you’d be in for a lot of trouble on the field.

Advantages

One of the reasons many players swear by this type of airsoft gun pistol is that they are more reliable. Many other types of airsoft weapons can malfunction under specific conditions, such as cold weather. Also, there is the risk of running out of power when relying on external energy sources, such as batteries. This isn’t going to happen with an airsoft spring pistol. Plus, water won’t cause the equipment to stop working either. That means you can count on it to fire whenever needed. Plus, most of these airsoft rifles are more affordable than the other types.

Airsoft Rifles, http://www.softairpro.com/airsoft-rifles/ are examples of airsoft guns, http://www.softairpro.com/ that are becoming increasingly popular in North America. Although the equipment closely resembles a real rifle in most respects, it is not capable of doing the same type of damage as a real weapon that means it’s safer to use for a wide variety of purposes. Whether you’re interested in joining a team for a skirmish battle or you want to practice your shooting skills without running the risk of keeping real arms around your home, investing in airsoft rifles is one of the best ways to accomplish your goals. Below are some helpful facts that might help you get started in the right direction.
Making the right Choice
Airsoft firearms come in a wide variety of types and models. You’ll find that most are very close replicas of real models. In fact, the similarities have been so close in some cases that trademark infringement has become an issue. However, you don’t have to stick to just real-world weapons, such as the AEG Airsoft Rifles, http://www.softairpro.com/airsoft-rifles/aeg-airsoft-rifles.htm You’ll also find an Airsoft Gun Rifle, http://www.softairpro.com/airsoft-rifles/airsoft-gun-rifle.htm or two that are designed to replicate fictional weapons, such as the firearms used in movies such as Aliens. With these weapons, you can simulate science fiction battles outside of your imagination or your video game console.
No matter what type of airsoft shooting you plan to be doing, the important thing is to avoid purchasing the cheapest models you can find. Many of these are poorly constructed models from China that simply aren’t capable of being used for competitive airsofts shooting.
Instead, you want to find a reliable dealer who can help steer you to some of the better names in the business and who can answer the questions you have about the equipment before you spend the money. After all, most people who are interested in taking up the Electric Airsoft Rifles, http://www.softairpro.com/airsoft-rifles/electric-airsoft-rifles.htm hobby invest a couple of hundred dollars initially at first.
Understand Safety Precautions
When you’re using airsoftrifles, you should always be careful and take safety precautions. For example, you should only use them when you away from anyone who could be inadvertently injured by the pellets. Although they definitely don’t pack the punch of real bullets, they can be painful and can cause serious injury if you receive a hit to the head, face, or eyes. Finding a good, far away location for their use is a good idea whether you’ll be shooting your airsoft rifle alone or as part of a team.
Make sure you also wear the proper face and eye protection when using the equipment. Like bullets, pellets can sometimes ricochet and cause damage to the shooter unexpectedly. If you’re playing with other people, being hit by unfriendly fire is part of the game but you want to make sure to protect yourself from any type of serious injury. Otherwise, you could end up not only costing your team the match but you could find yourself out of commission for a while. Using your Assault Airsoft Rifles, http://www.softairpro.com/airsoft-rifles/assault-airsoft-rifles.htm or airsoft rifle safely just ensures you can keep enjoying it for a long time.

Although there are only 3 types of Airsoft guns available, gas, electric and spring, each type has different versions with added features and extras. Making a decision on the type of Airsoft gun to purchase will ultimately depend on the reason you want the gun, whether it is for practicing shooting at targets or playing in a game with other players.

Spring Airsoft Guns or Rifles are the easiest type of Airsoft gun to use, pull back the slide which compresses the spring and the gun is ready to shoot. These guns are great for target practice, relatively cheap to buy and there is no need for gas or charging it up to make it work. On the other hand it has to be ‘reloaded’ each time it is fired (like a shotgun/rifle) so isn’t very suitable for games where speed is the main factor. Airsoft Gas Guns are generally for the more serious gun enthusiasts and as they operate by a gas driven mechanism powered either by carbon dioxide and/or green gas have to be refilled each time. Be aware too that if conditions are very cold, gas guns won’t work. The Electric Airsoft Guns and Electric Powered BB Guns, (also known as AEG) are the most popular Airsoft guns on the market today and the perfect choice for games. Made in Japan, they have a rechargeable battery used to power the electric motor that enables the inner mechanism to discharge the pellets. They can be fired continually and are great for games. Another advantage to the electric guns is they often have high capacity magazines that can hold hundreds of BBs.

When selecting your gun you should keep in mind the following;

How long the gun could be expected to last? With some TLC and the correct maintenance guns can last for many years. Its durability will also depend on the quality of the gun and the material it’s made from; plastic won’t last as long as metal and breaks easier but is a cheaper option.

Precision is decided by the bore, length and quality of the inner barrel. Precision inner barrels can be purchased in a variety of lengths and bore diameters in order to improve the predisposition of the BB and make it return to the same targeted spot each time the trigger is pulled.

If the gun is damaged it can prove costly to have to replace it so take into consideration whether parts can be replaced inexpensively or even upgraded thus improving the quality of your gun at a fraction of the cost.

Think about the accessories you might want to buy to go with your gun, are they reasonably priced? What kinds of extra magazines can be bought and what are the costs for these?

Note the FPS speed (Feet Per Second). This is the speed at which the pellets leave the gun barrel, so the higher the FPS, the faster the pellet will go. Be aware though, that the faster the bullet the more impact it will have on contact with a part of the body. Roughly, a gun with a 2/300 FPS will hit someone within ten feet skin and cause some very painful bruises.

The amount of rounds that can be fired from the gun in a certain amount of time is called the ROF (Rate of Fire). This feature is often hyped up as the more rounds aimed at the target the chance of a hit increases but inevitably more ammunition is used.

The ideal place to find information and advice on buying Airsoft guns is to read some reviews on the Internet. Airsoft Forums can also be valuable sources of information. Don’t consider buying an Airsoft gun just because it looks good, but weigh up all the facts before you come to any decision.

After all, you do not want to have to keep asking, “Uhh… what does that mean?” Here is a long list of definitions to help anybody get acquainted with airsoft.

AEG: Automatic Electric Gun. The most popular kind of gun on the market.

After-market parts: Anything you can purchase to upgrade or enhance your gun.

BB: Ball bearing. 6mm and spherical, this is the ammunition used in airsoft. The most common weights of BBs are .12g and .20g.

BDU: Battle Dress Uniform. The clothing and gear worn by a player during an airsoft game. Breech: Where the BB sits immediately before being fired.

CA: Classic Army, a popular manufacturer of airsoft guns.

Chronograph: The device used to test the speed of a projectile, usually to determine if the speed is a safe rate.

CQB: Close quarters battle. Airsoft guns designated as CQB usually have a lower power and are meant to be fired at a close range.

EBB: Electric Blow-Back. These are pistols in which the slide moves backwards and forwards when being fired. While this increases realism, it decreases power, as energy must be diverted to power the blow back effect instead of being focused on the actual firing of the projectile. FPS: Feet per second, a measure of the velocity of airsoft projectiles.

GBB: Gas Blow-Back. Similar to the EBB, except more realistic and powerful. Hi-Cap: High capacity magazines. Can hold hundreds of BBs, and usually require a wheel at the bottom of the magazine that needs to be wound occasionally to keep upward feeding pressure on the BBs.

Hop-Up: A device which increases the range of an airsoft gun, by putting backspin on each individual pellet.

Low-cap: Reliable magazines which hold fifty to one hundred BBs.

Mechbox (aka Gearbox): The mechanism which enables AEGs to function.

Mid-Cap: Medium capacity magazines that function as well as low-cap magazines but can hold more BBs. ROF: The rate of fire. Usually measured in RPM, rounds per minute. If an airsoft gun can shoot 500 rounds in 1 minute, it would have an ROF of 500RPM. Slide: The primary moving section of an automatic airsoft gun. It takes a round from the magazine, loads it into the breech, and fires it.

Zeroing: The process of making your shots align with the sight of the gun.

About the Author

It is best to have an airsoft rifle and pistol if you are an avid player of airsoft, but what if you can only get one, due to financial or space constraints? A rifle is not always better than a pistol; in some cases, the latter may be a better fit for your needs. It all depends on how and where you want to use the product.

For those who mainly use airsoft guns to participate in the airsoft game, a rifle is usually your best pick. They are fast, powerful, and have higher magazine capacities than pistols. Their ranges extend beyond pistols, so you can avoid close combat. Most airsoft players use rifles, and decide to keep a pistol on them only as backup. As with anything, there are exceptions. Some people choose to use a pistol all the time. With a pistol, one picks their shots carefully, instead of spraying in the general direction of the enemy. Many find rifles to be unwieldy and/or too heavy, which restricts movement. Dual wielding is also an option with pistols, and for those who train in this technique, it can be very effective (being ambidextrous is helpful for this pursuit).

If one wishes to use airsoft guns simply for target shooting, a pistol is often the most economical choice. A high-quality pistol is much less expensive than an identical quality rifle, which is why pistols are ideal for those who want to save money. One does not need all the capabilities a rifle has if they just want to shoot targets. However, some people enjoy using rifles much more than pistols, so whatever the endeavor, a rifle would be favored.

It all comes down to personal preference. While some are fascinated by pistols, others feel the same way about rifles. Those who do not prefer one over the other just have to weigh the benefits of each option and see which choice would work better for them.

If you have decided that you want to play airsoft, then there are a few things that you will need to buy before you start playing. You will need eye protection, an airsoft gun, camo or approriate clothes, a tactical vest or belt, and a there are many other things that you should get later on if you are serious.

You absoulutley need some form of eye/face protection in order to play airsoft. Airsoft is dangerous if you do not wear the correct safety equipment. Safety Glasses or goggles are okay for target practice, but if you are being shot at, you will need a paintball mask. Paintball masks cover your entire face to help prevent you from being hit in the eye, nose, or mouth. You do not want to be hit in any of those areas, and you should never play airsoft without the proper safety equipment.

Once you got your airsoft mask, then you can buy the fun things, like your airsoft gun. If you are just starting out, I suggest that you buy an AEG, which is an automatic electric gun that runs on batteries. AEG’s are the most popular airsoft guns, and they are the most versitile. If you are going to play airsoft, you should spend the most money on your gun. Do not skimp on airsoft guns, remember that the good ones have good resale value and you can just put it on ebay if you lose interest in the sport. There is no reason to buy a garbage AEG, but that doesn’t mean you good cheap airsoft guns. I am always someone that wants to save money, but if it is something that has good resale value, I don’t mind spending money on it. When you first start, you should get an AEG, and then once you are used to playing airsoft you can get a spring or gas gun. The better brands of AEGs are Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, G&G and STAR. If you have money to burn, buy a Systema, but I couldn’t afford one.

Once you have your safety equipment and your airsoft gun, you should consider buying yourself some kind of clothing for playing airsoft. Ideally, you will have a gun and uniform for both good guys and bad guys, but that is not important when you are just starting out. A good pair of BDUs and maybe a tactical vest to hold extra magazines and water would be a good start. I recommend some kind of cheap full body jumpsuit when you are first starting, and then once you find out that airsoft is the best sport ever, you will want to buy some clothing for scenario play.

Airsoft as a sport has been around since 1950s East Asia, specifically Japan where firearms were difficult or impossible to obtain due to local laws; sought a legal alternative for enjoying their passion. Airsoft is still today most popular in several Asian regions, such as Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and to a certain extent, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The vast majority of airsoft guns, accessories, and after market upgrade parts are also manufactured in these countries.

Airsoft participants organize meetings, either indoors or outdoors, at dedicated airsoft battlefields to play a variety of games ranging from short-term skirmishes, organized scenarios, military simulations, or historical reenactments. Combat situations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game.

The guns used in a skirmish vary considerably, from SMG’s (sub machine guns), assault rifles, sniper rifles and pistols. The most common type of gun found in a skirmish is an AEG or Auto-Electric-Gun, mainly due to high rate of fire and long charge time in the battery used. Airsoft guns are all too often confused with BB guns and this is something that cause damage to the reputation of the sport. A Bb Gun operate under spring, gas or pump and are capable of propelling a metal bearing at speeds approaching 1000 fps. These devices are used by some shooters as a practice weapon or to hunt fowl and small game. While an airsoft gun can operate under gas, spring or electric power and fire a 6mm plastic pellet at speeds around 300fps.

The internet is obviously the primary source of information for airsoft enthusiasts and can sometimes contain inaccurate information for upgrading/downgrading guns and increasing the rate of fire of a gun.

Improve Rate of Fire & Feet Per Second of your Airsoft Gun AirsoftPress have released a new e-book aimed at helping the average airsofter to increase the FPS and ROF of an average AEG. Put simply it is a guide on Airsoft Gun Optimization. To achieve ultra high FPS, you need to make sure the entire mechbox mechanism is optimized in such a way that the desired FPS can be produced without sacrificing ROF and battery life. High FPS performance must be achieved with practicality in mind …#34; you should not need to trade off power with other performance factors, and the gears should not get striped too easily.

On the other hand, to achieve ultra high ROF you’ll need to make sure the entire mechbox mechanism is optimized in such a way that piston movement is fast enough to produce the rate of fire desired. That means you need to use techniques to reduce the friction introduced due to fast movement, to ensure the spring can rebound fast enough after compression, and to reduce the overall workload of the gears and the motor.

The primary goal of this guide is to help you improve FPS and ROF in a cost effective way. Different mechbox modification techniques are covered. Additionally, the issues of air tightness and battery configuration which are outside of the mechbox but are still highly relevant to the overall airsoft AEG performance are also addressed.

The goal of proper air sealing is to fill every gap along the air flow path to minimize air leakage and create an efficient environment for propelling BBs out of the barrel. We teach you how to maximize air seal at the two most critical areas along the air flow path, which are the cylinder set (from piston to air nozzle) and the Barrel / Hopup set.

The correct voltage on which an AEG motor is required to operate is critical. Every motor model is unique. Different models have different operating characteristics. In general, a 5% decrease in voltage can often translate into a 10% decrease in motor torque. The goal of this section is to help you determine the correct type of battery pack to use for your AEG, as well as to teach you the corresponding charging techniques. Many Airsoft dealers are using the AirsoftPress publications as a reference guide when repairing broken AEG’s. The beauty of being able to repair or tweak your own Airsoft gun is that you save money on repair services and have the satisfaction of repairing your own gun.

One of the most overlooked parts of airsoft is choosing the correct BB weight. The tragedy of new airsofter players is when they spend hours picking out that shiny $300 AEG, only to load it with cheap.12g BBs and break the gun! Oh, and not to mention, you probably voided your warranty as well!

Although there are various weights for BBs, the four most common types you will see are.12g,.2g,.25g, and.3g. A few things you should note: the lighter the BB, the higher your velocity or FPS. The heavier the BB, the more accurate and less affected it is by wind resistance. This means your BB will actually travel further than a lighter BB, even though the lighter BB will have a higher velocity. The general rule is to shoot the heaviest BB your gun works with.

.12g BBs:

These BBs work well in spring guns or low powered electric guns. NEVER use these bullets in high quality electric guns, as they may jam and destroy the internals! Many manufacturers will consider your gun void if you shoot.12g BBs! One problem with the.12g BBs is that many horrible generic brands are offered at big box stores, and probably shouldn’t ever be used! Make sure they are seamless and precision ground BBs.

.2g BBs:

This is the most common and acceptable weight for airsoft guns. They can be used for almost any gun except very cheap pistols and low powered electric guns. However, they are not suggested for higher end sniper rifles. If you are new to the game, or just aren’t sure which weight to get, this is the one for you!

.25g BBs:

These are heavier grade BBs and should generally not be used in spring guns unless they are sniper rifles. This is often the choice of more experienced airsoft players, as they provide the best accuracy and travel the furthest.

.3g BBs:

These BBs are primarily meant for sniper rifles. They will provide the highest accuracy and distance, and will also pack quite a punch. It is possible to use these BBs in a high upgraded AEG, but otherwise you will be disappointed due to the low FPS.

The other weights you will find are basically just a mix of what I’ve written above, so a.23g BB will trade a bit of accuracy for a higher velocity. You will also find ultra-heavy.36-.43g BBs that are meant for highly upgraded sniper rifles.
