The tactics required in airsoft are heavily influenced by those used by armies across the world. As with any team sport, airsoft is a game where team must work together – each member of a team should have a role and be confident in executing that role when the time comes. By following these six tactics you can build an effective unit and maximise your chances of success.

Communication – The first and most important tactic is communication. Whether you are on the front line in assault or supporting the team from the back, every person in that team must be working together to communicate and execute what is needed to achieve their objective. The failure of one person to perform their role can jeopardize the rest of the team, and that must be appreciated and prevented through proper communication.

Leadership – All teams require leaders – to co-ordinate players, make decisions and implement those decisions quickly and effectively. Likewise, players must respect leadership and the leaders accountabe for those decisions. Do not question leaders while under fire, trust that their orders are what’s best for the team and make those orders happen.

Patience – You must be patient when you play airsoft games. Look around you and investigate the best routes to take before you move. Assess your enemies weapons, numbers, firepower and tactics. Stick together and you’ll stay alive.

Keep moving – Games are won or lost on the effectiveness of teams to apply pressure and continue to move as a unit to support each other. If you are bogged down, make a decision on how best to keep going and make it happen.

Maintain hidden until absolutely necessary – The ability to remain hidden is the number one factor in staying alive. Don’t shoot at enemies you can’t hit or suppress; keep low and maintain your element of surprise until the last moment.

Stay alert – Always be looking around you and assessing your environment. Enemies could be hidden anywhere at any point. Assess the likely potential ambush points as you move and cover any potential risk areas.

While these tactics are fairly common sense, implementing them to the extent that they are carried out effectively can be very difficult. Nothing is more effective than training – spend time with your team running through drills to maximise your effectiveness and you will substantially improve your chances of wining airsoft games.
